Drivers Ivy Scally Flat (Revisited)

Dear Crochet Community,

I finally did it.
I finally created a properly shaped flat cap. No crazy, extranneous pieces, no unneccessary steps. Just a nice looking cap of four simple pieces, joined with neat single crochet seaming.

This hat has been years in coming. Those of us looking for such a pattern rejoiced when we found the Lidsville. It had arrived! For many, content, even success, came with lidsville, that Sherlock Holmesy creation. For some, however, (*cough*me*cough) it proved to be a little fussy. (I could never get mine to turn out well at all.)

And so I kept trying. Beginning almost three years ago with a hat-that-never-quite-fit, the desire to successfully produce this hat has stayed with me. Three half-baked attempts (and many hours of despair) later, I think I have it. Behold!

So yeah. I might be a little proud. I haven't seen another like it yet, so let me just soak this in. :)
Love, Caitlin.

  1. did you use the lidsville pattern then? i just looked over that one today and i don't like the 'make 4 sections' at the back, it looks bulky. I want to make my son a hat exactly like yours!!

  4. Hi, this really is the nicest drivers cap pattern I've seen for crochet. I see people have asked for a pattern with no reply... I'm hoping to have better luck :) Are you willing to share your crochet pattern? I would really love to make one for myself! Thanks for your time.

    1. Hey! Thanks so much to all of you, and I'm really sorry I've been such a disappointing hobbyist and blogger! My chicken-scratched pattern, while I was able to make a nice hat from it, still needs so much tweaking. I was unhappy with the brim and the headband inside this one, and then when I tried to recreate others, they kept coming out inconsistently sized and shaped, so I got frustrated on developing the pattern, as it was getting quite time consuming. So, basically, there's not really a pattern yet. I am so sorry. :(

Just wondering if there is any progress on a pattern for this hat? I'm pretty keen to make one.

    1. Hey, I'm so sorry. I never did get around to writing this pattern down. I tried to replicate it and it turned out wonky. But there have been so many comments asking for it, I hope to revisit it this year and get the pattern out for sale. I will updated all of you who commented when I do.

  11. I love your hat also. Sorry to hear you had trouble making the pattern. I think I have pretty much duplicated it but using a more woven looking stitch. However, the bill is giving me trouble. Can you at least say how you did the bill? I would so appreciate it.
